As a leader do you have the skills to recognise individual as well as the collective emotions of the people you are leading? Most people are aware of emotional intelligence these days however very few leaders identify collective emotions and how important this is to how their “transformational” leadership ability is perceived. Being able to read first and then act requires a high level of self-confidence and self-awareness particularly if you are leading large groups of people and there is no time to invest in individual relationships. Knowing how to decode behaviours as well as understand cultural clues can offset challenging behaviours but more positively you can begin to build an emotionally safe space to share and understand each other.
