Another excellent short blog which gets to the nub of why change is difficult and what leaders can do to make it easier.

People often resist change but it may not be for the reasons their leaders think.  Some will be worried about their personal lack of control, or ‘say’ in the new direction, some won’t be responding to the new messages, and others may just not like where the proposed end point of the change is taking them.

Leaders need to remember at all times the change mantra “Change starts with me”.  If leaders communicate in new ways, behave as they want others to act, are transparent and honest then this will set them on the right path.  This personal change message is often neglected by leaders, and perhaps that is behind the very (and stubbornly) high percentage of failed change programmes.
