I’ve only met David Gilbert once but was struck and inspired by his passion and belief that ‘…patients, carers, communities and citizens can become partners for change.’ In this blog David takes an analytical, evidence-based approach, using his research as a CLAHRC NW London fellow, to explore the impact of patient and public engagement in quality improvement. David lists 7 key benefits patients bring to the healthcare party:

  1. Richer insight
  2. Potential solutions
  3. Changing relationships
  4. Individual benefits
  5. Better quality
  6. Changing practice
  7. Benefits beyond the project

As with all good writers, David leaves us with a cliffhanger in considering what the best conditions are to achieve these benefits and promises to share more from his research. So keep connected to his blog and in the meantime I recommend following him on Twitter too @DavidGilbert43.
