I’m an avid listener of podcasts, and one of my favourite ones is the Bottom Line; a fascinating 30 minute discussion about aspects of business.  When I saw that an upcoming episode was looking at how you measured productivity, I thought it could provide some insights for the NHS. It appears the producers had the same idea, and one of the guests was Dame Julie Moore, Chief Executive of University Hospitals Birmingham.

The programme looks at what productivity actually means and how different types of organisations measure productivity. As well as healthcare, the two other industries involved in the discussion are manufacturing and advertising; the former where ‘traditional’ measures of productivity are usually found and the latter, where ideas and creativity are the currency and productivity is almost impossible to measure.
