A fresh approach to leadership in the new social era; where being constantly connected has changed what employees and consumers expect from companies. These days employees across all levels of the organisation are meant to be more relational. Leaders have realised they need to adapt and embrace social media as a way to interact and maintain relationships with consumers. Mark Babbitt, president of leadership community Switch and Shift and CEO and founder of YouTern suggests there are three types of leaders who haven’t adapted their style: the doubter, the broadcaster and the superior.
In his book, “A World Gone Social: How Companies Must Adapt to Survive” (AMACOM, 2014), he makes three recommendations for leaders who want to be able to successfully operate in the social age:
- Get involved in social media
- Be open to learning
- Tap into your network
