Over ten years ago Horizons developed the Energy for Change Model and has since been using the framework to help teams, organisations and systems to develop their own approaches to accelerate positive change. The model works on the premise that there are FIVE energies for change that must all be ignited to build the environment for meaningful, sustainable change:
- Social energy
- Spiritual energy
- Psychological energy
- Physical energy
- Intellectual energy
The Energy for Change model is particularly effective where other improvement methods, that might only consider one energy, have not produced the intended results. In health and social care specifically, there is an emphasis on improvement interventions that build intellectual and physical energy, but we must mobilise all five to build lasting change.
Horizons works with health and social care partners to first identify the types of energy that might be lacking in an organisation or system and then co-creates interventions to build that energy based on evidence and experience of mobilising change.
