#SolvingTogether

The #SolvingTogether “crowdsourcing” platform is a regionally-led and centrally supported initiative to capture, assess, test and share ideas on a range of issues affecting our NHS. Heading #Home4Noon is part of the 100 Day Discharge Challenge, which aims to support trusts and systems to adopt 10 best practice initiatives to support hospital discharge.

The challenges are framed for the following groups: People; Teams; and Organisations, including systems.

The clock is ticking and we want to capture as many ideas as possible so we can make long lasting change. Got an idea? Know someone who might have some insight from their own lived experience? Then head on down to solvingtogether.crowdicity.com and join the change revolution!

Want to know more about why it’s important we get people heading #Home4Noon when they are ready to be discharged from hospital? Read @Vin_Diwakar’s blog by clicking here to find out more details about the challenges as well as Vin’s personal experiences with being discharged from hospital.

Great to see support from @Devon_NHSI on the Heading #Home4Noon challenges on #SolvingTogether. Devon has been involved with #SolvingTogether since it launched! Join him and other on the platform by clicking here and share your ideas.

@BevMatthewsRN brings attention to pharmacies playing a significant role in getting people heading #Home4Noon. Read more on this by clicking here to read @RachelHinde’s idea on the #SolvingTogether platform.

Horizons Highlights

The NHS Horizons team is looking to recruit Lived Experience partners! Could this be you, or do you know anyone who might be interested? To find out more and to apply click here.

This beautiful image by @gapingvoid was shared by Helen Bevan this week. It reminds me slightly of Peter Pan ” Second star to the right and straight on ’til morning”! Before I quote any more Disney based analogies, this tweet excellently captures the need for purpose in all that we do – especially when working in the ever changing improvement world. It’s much easier to get to the destination if you have something to aim for.

Bev Matthews shared a fantastic opportunity from the World Health organisation this week. So if you have a passion for improvement, specifically in Health Equity, this might be the thing for you!

We are so proud of @NinaJaspalCNP (Clinical Associate with NHS Horizons) who received a certificate for successfully completing the Developing Aspirant Leaders Programme. Well done Nina!

Spread and Adoption

Congratulations to @DianeKetley for the first year anniversary of the Leading the Spread and Adoption of Innovation and Improvement: A Practical Guide being published. Click here to access the guide.

Top picks from the world of improvement

Climate change poses a major threat to our health as well as our planet. In October 2020, The NHS pledged to commit to reaching carbon net zero, in response to the profound and growing threat to health posed by climate change. Hospitals across the country are joining in efforts to see NHS emissions lowered and this week, the Oxford University Hospitals announced that they were awarded the ‘Climate Actions Heroes’ award for their work in orthotics department.

Congratulations to the whole team for a fantastic achievement!

The World Health Organisation is spreading the word about noncommunicable diseases – can you help them?

Below is a useful graphic that shows the difference between “classic” programme management the “convening” approaches that we’re increasingly using.

In loving memory of Alan Nobbs

In this week’s edition we would like to make a special mention to a much beloved and esteemed colleague Alan Nobbs. He will be sadly missed by so many people across the NHS and beyond. NHS Horizons sends all our love to Alans friends and family at this heartbreaking time. Thank you Alan for bringing your knowledge, warmth and sparkle to the world of improvement.

And finally….

Here’s a smiley snail with some friendly advice…
