New Leadership for NHS Horizons

After 8 years in the Horizons team, our Director Kathryn Perera is standing down at the end of this month to take on new opportunities as a Senior Consultant (leadership and organisational development) at The King’s Fund.

We are pleased to announce that Emma Challans-Rasool has been appointed as the new Director of NHS Horizons. Emma, the Founder and Director of Proud2bOps, will start the role in June 2024.

Announcing the news this week, Kathryn shared:

“Horizons has been a huge part of my life, from my recruitment (nearly a decade ago) into the NHS by the awesome Helen Bevan, to the total privilege of leading this team as it has grown in prominence and reputation. Now feels the right time to move on and to allow Horizons’ next chapter to emerge. In this next phase, Horizons will continue its inspiring work under the leadership of Emma Challans-Rasool, who will become the Director alongside her current work leading the Proud2bOps movement within Horizons’ portfolio of networks and communities.”

Emma has worked across healthcare for over 20 years and is an experienced Board-level Director and leader within the health and care sector. Emma’s work in numerous roles has centred on promoting innovation and improvement to enhance patient, staff and partner experience.

Emma is proud to have led in various senior leadership roles including Operational Management, Service Improvement, Organisational Development, Leadership and Culture Transformation. Emma’s public sector experience spans acute, community, primary care and independent. Emma has been a member of Horizons’ senior leadership team since August 2023 and will continue to work alongside our Deputy Director, Zoe Lord, and the wider team.

On her new position Emma shared:

“It is an absolute honour and privilege to be the lead of Horizons and continue the brilliant work we do and excel in.  Having worked in the improvement and healthcare arena for many years, I have always admired, felt energised and aligned to the values and innovative approach of Horizons.  Joining the leadership team last year was such a natural step for me, feeling at home from day one and working alongside a wonderful team of change agents.  I am confident we will continue the success and impact we have across Horizons and Proud2bOps and most of all, add value to the communities we serve”.
